A business process management company based in Mumbai, WNS runs the behind-the-scenes work for clients — customer care, finance and accounting, and analytics — for industries from travel and insurance to healthcare and retail. It was born in 2002 when British Airways spun off its own back-office arm into a separate company; the name WNS began as shorthand for "World Network Services." A fun quirk: the company, rooted in the airline's operations, later listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange rather than in India.
