A giant US drugstore chain, Walgreens fills prescriptions and sells everyday health and beauty goods at its many neighborhood stores. Founder Charles Walgreen bought the Chicago pharmacy he managed in 1901 and named his growing chain after himself. Walgreen is even credited with inventing the chocolate malted milkshake at his soda fountain, a treat that drew thirsty customers into the shop.
