Weingarten Realty Investors
A real estate investment trust that owned and operated neighborhood shopping centers across the United States, Weingarten Realty grew out of a Houston grocery chain run by the Weingarten family. The company was spun off from the family's supermarket business in 1948 and became a publicly traded REIT in 1985. In 2021 it was acquired by fellow shopping-center REIT Kimco Realty.
