Wellpoint Inc

One of the largest health insurers in the US, WellPoint ran Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across much of the country, serving millions through brands like Anthem and Blue Cross of California. It was born in 2004 when Anthem Inc. merged with WellPoint Health Networks, taking the WellPoint name, then renamed itself Anthem a decade later. Fun fact: the Blue Cross name dates to 1929, when a Baylor University hospital official launched a prepaid hospital-care plan that became the model for the whole Blue Cross system.
