An American oil and gas producer that drilled for crude and natural gas in shale basins like the Permian and the Bakken, using horizontal drilling and fracking. It began as the exploration arm of Tulsa's Williams Companies and was spun off in 2011, taking its name from "Williams Production and Exploration." In 2021 it merged with Devon Energy, ending its run as an independent company.
