A maker of orthopedic implants and bone-graft materials, Wright Medical designs surgical solutions for the extremities — shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, feet, and ankles — plus biologics that help damaged bone heal. It began in 1950 when orthopedic salesman Frank O. Wright invented a rubber "street heel" to ease the back pain patients felt walking on the hard steel heels of leg casts, and named his company after himself. In 2020 the firm was acquired by Stryker and became part of that larger medical-device company.
