A Swiss private bank that looks after the money of wealthy families, entrepreneurs and family offices, offering investment advice and wealth and estate planning rather than everyday retail banking. It began in 1890 as a small money-exchange office on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse; German-born Julius Bär joined and took full ownership in 1901, renaming the firm after himself. Fun fact: the founder's surname is the German word for "bear," yet the bank has never had a bear mascot — the animal link is just a happy coincidence.
