Constellation Software Inc.

A Canadian holding company that buys and permanently owns software firms serving niche industries — from public transit and golf course management to education and marine retail. Founder Mark Leonard, a former venture capitalist, started it in 1995 after noticing these small, loyal-customer software businesses were too tiny for traditional investors. He wanted to name it "Software Co.," but partners pushed for "Constellation" — a nod to many independent stars forming one picture.
