Dating to a cement plant opened in 1873 in the German city of Heidelberg, Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest makers of cement, ready-mixed concrete, and aggregates like gravel and sand — the basic ingredients of roads, bridges, and skyscrapers. For over a century it was known as HeidelbergCement, taking its present name in 2023. Fun fact: it carries the name of its hometown, the scenic university city whose hillside castle has graced Heidelberg's label for generations.
