Adidas AG
A German sportswear giant that designs and makes athletic shoes, apparel, and gear, from the classic three-stripe sneakers and jerseys worn by athletes and fans to everyday streetwear. It began in the 1920s when cobbler Adolf "Adi" Dassler started crafting sports shoes in his mother's laundry room in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The name "Adidas" comes from "Adi" plus "Das" (the start of Dassler), and after a falling-out with his brother Rudolf in 1948, the two split to found rival brands — Adidas and Puma.
