A European media and technology company based in Berlin that publishes news brands including BILD, WELT, POLITICO, and Business Insider. It was founded in 1946 in Hamburg by publisher Axel Springer and his father Hinrich, working under a British military government license. Its flagship paper BILD takes its name from the German word for "picture," chosen for its image-heavy, visual style.
