A French maker of everyday disposable goods, BIC is best known for its Cristal ballpoint pens, disposable lighters, and shavers found in homes and offices around the world. Marcel Bich founded the company in 1945 near Paris and shortened his own surname (dropping the "h") to create the brand, then launched the Cristal pen in 1950, which became one of the best-selling pens in history. The design of that iconic clear-barreled pen has barely changed in over seventy years and even sits in the collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art.
