Austerlitz Acquisition Corporation I
A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) — a "blank check" firm with no operations of its own, formed to raise money and merge with an existing business. Founded by veteran financier William P. Foley II, it went public in 2021 and hunted for fintech and business-services targets. Its name comes from the Battle of Austerlitz, Napoleon's greatest victory, part of Foley's habit of naming his investment vehicles after historic battles. It never found a merger partner and was liquidated in 2022, returning its cash to shareholders.
