Baldwin & Lyons Inc (now the Baldwin Insurance Group Inc)

A property-and-casualty insurer built around trucking: Baldwin & Lyons specialized in commercial trucking fleets and workers' compensation. Founded in Indianapolis in 1930 as a one-man brokerage by Harry C. Baldwin, it shifted to trucking when Voris Lyons joined in 1944, and in 1966 the company took on both their names. After spawning its Protective Insurance Company subsidiary in the 1950s, the whole firm adopted the Protective Insurance name in 2018.
