A global specialty insurer and reinsurer, AXIS Capital writes hard-to-place coverage for businesses—professional liability, cyber, marine and aviation, and credit and political risk—through brokers, plus treaty reinsurance for other insurers. It was founded in Bermuda in 2001, the first and largest new company created after the September 11 attacks to fill a sudden gap in insurance capacity. Its name reflects its role as a central point, or axis, in the specialty insurance marketplace.

Underwriting profitability weakened as catastrophe losses climbed. rose 16% to $254.8 million on 9% higher , but the deteriorated 4.2 points to 93.1% as catastrophe and weather-related losses reached $80 million. The Insurance continued to expand while Reinsurance contracted sharply, leaving the company's earnings more exposed to loss volatility.
AXIS Capital Q2 2026 net income rose 16% to $251M on 9% higher net premiums earned, offset by higher catastrophe losses and softening property/casualty pricing.

These legal proceedings generally relate to claims asserted by or against us in the ordinary course of our insurance or reinsurance operations. Estimated amounts payable related to these proceedings are included in the reserve for losses and loss expenses in our consolidated balance sheets. We are not party to any material legal proceedings arising outside the ordinary course of business.
