Cosan Ltd
A Brazilian conglomerate that runs some of the country's biggest everyday energy and logistics brands. Through Raízen, its joint venture with Shell, it makes sugarcane ethanol and sugar and operates thousands of Shell-branded gas stations across Brazil and Argentina, while the Rumo railroad unit moves crops and goods around the country. It grew out of a sugar mill the Ometto family — Italian immigrants — opened in Piracicaba, São Paulo, in 1936, and the name Cosan is a nod to the old "Irmãos Ometto e Cia." partnership that became the modern group.
