Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd
A Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer, Endurance Specialty Holdings sold coverage that helps other insurance companies weather big losses — from property catastrophes and aviation liability to directors-and-officers protection. It was born in November 2001, right after the September 11 attacks, when insurers scrambled to spread risk, and its name was chosen to signal the resilience needed to ride out disasters. In 2015 it absorbed fellow Bermudian reinsurer Montpelier Re, and in 2017 the Japanese giant Sompo bought it, folding it into what became Sompo International.
