Bank Mutual Corporation
A community-banking holding company from Wisconsin, Bank Mutual Corporation was the parent of Bank Mutual, a savings and loan that took deposits and lent money to households, small businesses, and nonprofits across the Badger State. It began in 1940 as the Mutual Savings and Loan Association of Wisconsin, spent decades growing and changing names before adopting "Bank Mutual" in 2003, and was acquired by Associated Banc-Corp in 2018. The company traced its roots to the "mutual" tradition, where the bank was owned by its own depositors rather than outside shareholders.
