Ingersoll Rand Inc.

A maker of air compressors and other industrial equipment used in factories, mines, and workshops, Ingersoll Rand traces its roots to 1871, when inventor Simon Ingersoll patented a steam-powered rock drill that replaced manual hand-drilling. The company's name comes from the 1905 merger of the Ingersoll-Sergeant Drill Company and the Rand Drill Company, and in 2020 its industrial business spun off and merged with Gardner Denver to form today's company.
