Weatherford International Plc
A Houston-based oilfield services company, Weatherford International makes the tools and equipment that keep oil and gas wells running across their whole lifetime—from drilling and cementing to tools that help extract and maintain production. It began in 1941 as the Weatherford Spring Company, a Texas shop that made truck springs and brakes before its founder, an inventive engineer, pivoted to solving the slow, dangerous work of moving heavy drill pipe. It took its name from its hometown of Weatherford, Texas, and adopted the "International" tag in 1998 after decades of growth through acquisitions.
