A special purpose acquisition company, or "blank check" firm, that had no business of its own — it raised money from investors to merge with a private company and take it public. Founded in 2020 by Barry Sternlicht, the billionaire behind Starwood Capital Group, it was one of several SPACs named after the "Jaws" brand of his family office. In 2021 it merged with Velo3D, a maker of metal 3D printers, and the combined company took the Velo3D name.
