An investment holding company at the heart of the Jardine Matheson Group, one of Asia's oldest and largest trading conglomerates, it owns major stakes in businesses like Hongkong Land (luxury property) and the DFI Retail Group (pan-Asian supermarkets and stores). The group traces back to 1832, when Scottish merchants William Jardine and James Matheson set up a trading house in Canton that became known as the "Princely Hong," a name reflecting its towering influence over British trade in China. Jardine Strategic itself was created in 1986 to hold these big stakes.
