Barclays Plc
A British universal bank headquartered in London, Barclays serves individuals, businesses, and institutions through retail banking, credit cards, corporate lending, and investment banking. Its roots reach back to 1690, when goldsmith bankers John Freame and Thomas Gould set up shop in the City of London, and the family name entered the firm when James Barclay became a partner in 1736. The bank is one of the world's oldest, and its Barclaycard brand helped pioneer the consumer credit card in the UK.
