A special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC — a shell firm that raises money from stock-market investors first, then hunts for a private company to merge into and take public. Launched by venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya's Social Capital and investment firm Hedosophia, its "VI" marks it as the sixth in their series of such deal-finding firms. It listed on the Nasdaq in 2020 and returned investors' money in 2022 without completing a merger.
