Xl Group Ltd

A property-and-casualty insurer and reinsurer that covers big businesses, from commercial property to specialty risks. It was born in 1986 as EXEL Limited, created in the Cayman Islands by dozens of Fortune 500 companies frustrated by the liability-insurance crunch of the early 1980s. The name "XL" is simply a shorthand of "EXEL," and after merging with Mid Ocean in 1998 it became XL Capital before being folded into French giant AXA in 2018.
