Standard Chartered Plc
A London-based bank that serves individuals, businesses, and governments across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, offering everything from everyday savings and wealth management to corporate and investment banking. It was formed in 1969 when the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China merged with the Standard Bank of British South Africa, and its name combines the two. A fun twist: the Chartered Bank was founded in 1853 by James Wilson, the same Scotsman who created The Economist magazine.
