A British-Dutch energy giant that drills for oil and gas, refines fuels, and sells gasoline, diesel, and motor oils like Pennzoil and Shell Helix at petrol stations around the world. It took shape in 1907 when the Shell Transport and Trading Company merged with Royal Dutch Petroleum to better compete against Standard Oil. The "Shell" name honors the family's original London business importing seashells for Victorian decorative crafts, and its yellow scallop-shell logo still nods to that humble start.
