Sysmex Corporation
A maker of diagnostic instruments, reagents, and software for clinical laboratories, Sysmex is best known for its automated blood cell counters used in hospitals and labs worldwide. Founded in Kobe, Japan in 1968 as TOA Medical Electronics, it coined the "Sysmex" brand in 1978 — blending "Sys" (system), "Mex" (medical), and "X" (untapped potential) — and adopted it as its corporate name in 1998. Its predecessor built Japan's first automated blood cell counter in 1963.
