Founded in 1904 in Svendborg, Denmark, by Captain Peter Mærsk Møller and his son A.P. Møller, it grew from a single steamship into a global fleet. The company's seven-pointed star logo traces to 1886, when the captain, fearing for his ill wife's life at sea, prayed for a sign of hope.
