Bellatrix Exploration Ltd

A Calgary-based oil and natural gas producer, Bellatrix Exploration drilled for liquids-rich gas in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, working fields like the Cardium and Spirit River formations of Alberta. It was born in 2009 when True Energy Trust was converted into a corporation under CEO Ray Smith. The name comes from Bellatrix, the third-brightest star in Orion—chosen so the company would be "the rising star" of Western Canada.
