A stock exchange that serves as the main marketplace for Mexico's financial markets, where investors buy and sell stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds through its electronic trading systems. Its roots trace to 1894, when La Bolsa Nacional was founded in Mexico City, and the word "bolsa" (Spanish for "purse") harks back to 13th-century Bruges, where merchants gathered outside the Van der Beurze family's home, whose coat of arms showed three money bags. Its headquarters tower was originally designed as a hotel.
