Grupo Mexico Sab De Cv
A mining and transport conglomerate and one of the world's largest copper producers, Grupo México digs up copper, silver, zinc, and gold across the Americas, and runs Mexico's biggest freight rail network through Ferromex. Its roots reach back to 1892, when the Guggenheim family built smelters in Mexico that later became ASARCO; the modern company formed in 1978 and took the name Grupo México in 2000. A quirk: its Peruvian arm runs a private, standard-gauge railway hauling copper from Andes mines to the port of Ilo.
