A Brazilian meat-processing giant and one of the world's largest producers of beef, poultry, and pork, selling under familiar brands like Swift, Pilgrim's Pride, and Seara to grocers and restaurants around the globe. It began in 1953 as a small butcher shop in Anápolis, Brazil, opened by José Batista Sobrinho, who supplied meat to workers building the new capital, Brasília. The company's name comes from the founder's initials, JBS.
