One of the world's largest automakers, Stellantis is a Dutch-based company formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and France's PSA Group, bringing together familiar brands like Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroën, Dodge, and Alfa Romeo. Its corporate name comes from the Latin verb stello, meaning "to brighten with stars," a nod to the constellation of roughly fourteen heritage brands that each kept their own name and identity. It was founded when its two predecessors joined to pool the high costs of developing new-car technology.
