Bemis Company Inc
A maker of flexible packaging, Bemis Company produced the films and bags that keep food, medicines, and household supplies fresh and protected. Founded in 1858 in St. Louis, when 25-year-old Judson Moss Bemis began sewing cotton, burlap, and paper bags for Mississippi River millers, the firm's famous trademark came from a factory cat named Biddy, whose pose inside an empty bag in 1882 inspired the company's "cat in the bag" logo. The company was later absorbed by packaging giant Amcor in 2019.
