Its labels — Republic, Capitol, Interscope, Island — have released music for superstars like Taylor Swift, U2, and The Beatles. Its roots reach back to the American branch of Decca Records (1934), which MCA bought in 1962 and later renamed Universal Music Group in 1996, borrowing its name and logo from the Universal Pictures film studio.
