A Norwegian maker of marine seismic surveys, PGS maps the ocean floor for oil and gas companies searching for energy beneath the sea. Founded in Norway in 1991 as Petroleum Geo-Services (it shortened the name to PGS in 2019), the company grew into one of the world's largest seismic firms, running a fleet of distinctive triangular-hulled Ramform vessels that tow long cables of sensors through the water. Its odd wedge-shaped ships, inspired by a Norwegian spy vessel, are so unusual they've been jokingly called "half a ship."
