Skf Ab
A maker of ball bearings, seals, and lubrication systems used in everything from cars and trains to wind turbines and factory machinery. Founded in 1907 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the company's name is short for Svenska Kullagerfabriken, literally "Swedish Ball Bearing Factory." Engineer Sven Wingquist co-founded it after inventing a self-aligning ball bearing to solve problems caused by the city's soft, shifting soil, which kept knocking machinery shafts out of line.
