A global packaging company best known for inventing Bubble Wrap, the air-cushioned plastic sheets that protect everything from electronics to glassware in shipping. It also makes food packaging under the Cryovac brand, which keeps fresh meat and produce from spoiling on the way to stores. The company was founded in 1960 by two engineers who first tried to make 3D wallpaper by sealing air between plastic sheets — the wallpaper flopped, but the trapped air became a packaging icon, and the company took its name from that very process of sealing air.
