Biotie Therapies Oyj

A Finnish biopharmaceutical company that developed drugs for brain and inflammatory diseases, most notably Selincro (nalmefene), a pill that helps people with alcohol dependence cut down their drinking and was approved across the European Union. Founded in 1992 by professors Markku and Sirpa Jalkanen, it merged with two other Finnish biotech firms in 2002. Its name blends "bio" with "tie," the Finnish word for "road" — a nod to pioneering new paths in medicine.
