Hanger, Inc.
A provider of orthotic and prosthetic care, Hanger designs and fits artificial limbs and braces for people with amputations and limb differences through its Hanger Clinic locations across the United States. The company takes its name from James Edward Hanger, the first amputee of the American Civil War, who in 1861 built his own replacement leg from barrel staves, rubber, wood, and metal—inventing the first hinged knee and foot. His "Hanger Limb" proved so popular with wounded soldiers that it launched the business.
