Manning & Napier, Inc.
An investment management firm based near Rochester, New York, that runs mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and wealth management services for individuals, families, nonprofits, and institutions. It was founded in 1970 by two money managers, William Manning and William Napier, who simply combined their surnames for the name. A fun footnote: a 1994 court case championed by co-founder Bill Manning led to the industry-wide "Manning Rule," which requires brokers to put their clients' orders ahead of their own firm's trades.
