Autoweb, Inc.
A digital marketing company that connects car shoppers with dealerships, running websites like Car.com and UsedCars.com where buyers research vehicles and dealers pay for leads. It began in 1995 as Autobytel, a service car dealer Peter Ellis dreamed up for buying cars by telephone — the name was short for "Automobiles-by-Telephone" — before the internet took over. In 2017 the company, which had absorbed the rival AutoWeb.com site in 2001, adopted the AutoWeb name for the whole business.
