Markit Ltd.
A London-based financial information firm that collects and publishes independent pricing data for credit derivatives like credit default swaps, helping banks and hedge funds put a value on what used to be traded only over the phone. It was founded in 2003 by Lance Uggla as "Mark-it Partners," a name drawn from the finance practice of "marking to market" — recording a security's current value. It later merged with IHS to become IHS Markit, and today its data lives on inside S&P Global.
