A maker of refrigerated and frozen foods sold in grocery stores, Bob Evans Farms produces sausage, side dishes, and breakfast items under brands like Simply Potatoes, Egg Beaters, and Owens Sausage. The company began in 1948 when Ohio farmer Bob Evans, frustrated with the poor sausage served to truck drivers at his 12-stool diner, started making his own from hogs raised on his farm. Today the packaged-food business is owned by Post Holdings and is separate from the Bob Evans restaurant chain.
