Red Lion Hotels Corp

A hospitality company that franchised, managed, and owned hotels across the economy, midscale, and upscale tiers, under brands like Red Lion Hotels and Red Lion Inn & Suites. The Red Lion name was born in 1959 when Portland partners Tod McClaskey and Ed Pietz, already running Thunderbird Motor Inns, hit a naming clash with an existing Thunderbird hotel in Oregon and invented the Red Lion brand instead. The Spokane firm that later adopted the name traces its roots to 1937 and was folded into Sonesta in 2021.
