Aware, Inc.
A maker of biometric identity software based in Burlington, Massachusetts, Aware helps governments and businesses verify who people are using fingerprints, facial scans, and iris images — trusted by border control, law enforcement, and anti-fraud teams. Incorporated in 1986, the company made its name in the 1990s working with the FBI to help design WSQ, the standard algorithm for compressing digital fingerprints. Fun fact: it was the first company to sell WSQ as a ready-to-use software toolkit.
