Pervasive Software Inc.
A maker of database and data-integration software, Pervasive Software built the Btrieve database that powered countless business applications and later the Pervasive PSQL line. It began in 1982 when Doug and Nancy Woodward founded SoftCraft to create Btrieve, which Novell bought in 1987 and then spun off in 1994 as Btrieve Technologies, renamed Pervasive Software in 1996. Fun fact: co-founder Doug Woodward received half of the company as a wedding gift. Actian acquired Pervasive in 2013, and its database lives on as Actian Zen.
