Bridgestone Corporation

A Japanese maker of tires and rubber products, Bridgestone supplies tires for everything from passenger cars to trucks and aircraft, and also runs one of the world's largest chains of auto-care stores. Founder Shojiro Ishibashi started out making rubber-soled work shoes before launching the company in 1931. The name comes from his own surname — "Ishibashi" means "stone bridge" in Japanese, and he flipped the words around to create "Bridgestone" for international appeal.
