A maker of milk, yogurt, ice cream, milk powder, and cheese, Mengniu Dairy is one of China's largest dairy producers, with popular brands sold across the country. Founded in 1999 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, by former dairy executive Niu Gensheng, the company grew rapidly after leaving its bigger rival behind. The name "Mengniu" literally means "Mongolian cow" — fittingly, its founder's surname Niu also means "cow."
